COWETA COUNTY – The Georgia Department of Transportation announces a northbound traffic shift on Interstate 85 beginning near Exit 56 (Collinsworth Road/ County Road 548) and extending to Exit 61 (State Route 74/Senoia Road) beginning Sunday, March 15. This traffic shift is subject to change based on weather conditions.
Beginning north of Exit 56 on I-85 northbound, the previous three lanes of traffic will be reduced to two travel lanes and be shifted to the newly constructed lanes. This shift will extend northbound to Exit 61.
The posted speed limit of 60 mph will remain and will be strictly enforced. Refuge areas for accidents will be spaced at 1 mile intervals through the shift.
Message boards, signs, barricades, barrels and cones will be utilized to alert and channel motorists through the area.
The scheduled completion date for this project is December 31, 2009. Motorists should expect shoulder and lane closures on a continuing basis and are advised to use extra caution in construction work zones.
